even when it is operating properly. To
eliminate interference, you can try one
or both of the following corrective mea-
sures:
Note: This owner’s manual explains
how to use this electronic keyboard. It
does not teach music.
• Increase the distance between the
keyboard and the radio or TV

Consult your local RadioShack store or
an experienced radio/TV technician if
the problem still exists.

PREPARATION
POWERING YOUR
KEYBOARD
illustration
You can power your Concertmate 410
with.
• Internal batteries (see “Using Bat-
teries”)
2. Put the batteries in the compart-
ment as indicated by the polarity
symbols (+ and –) marked inside.
• Standard AC power using an
optional AC adapter (see “Using
AC Power” on Page 6)
• A vehicle’s cigarette lighter socket
using an optional DC adapter (see
“Using Vehicle Battery Power” on
Page 6)
illustration
Notes:
• Connecting an AC or DC adapter
automatically disconnects internal
batteries.
3. Replace the cover.
• Always disconnect the AC or DC
adapter when you finish using the
Concertmate 410.
Notes:
• If you do not plan to power the
Concertmate 410 from batteries
for a week or more, or if you plan
to use only AC or vehicle battery
power, remove the batteries.
Using Batteries
Your Concertmate 410 can use six C
batteries (not supplied) for power. We
recommend alkaline batteries, such as
RadioShack Cat. No. 23-551.
• If the Concertmate 410 sounds
weak or does not work properly,
replace all six batteries. Do not
mix old and new batteries.
Caution: Only use fresh batteries of
the required size and type.
Caution: Dispose of old batteries
promptly and properly.
1. Press the tabs on the battery com-
partment cover, then pull up in the
direction of the arrows to remove
the cover.
5

42-4031.fm Page 6 Wednesday, August 11, 1999 4:22 PM
2. Set the adapter’s voltage switch to
9 volts.
Using AC Power
You can power your Concertmate 410
from a standard AC outlet using a 9-
volt AC adapter (not supplied), such as
RadioShack Cat. No. 273-1650 or 273-
1662.
3. Insert the adapter’s barrel plug
into the DC9V jack on the back of
the Concertmate 410.
4. Plug the adapter into a standard
AC outlet.
Cautions:
• You must use an AC adapter that
supplies 9 volts, and delivers at
least 300 milliamps. Its center tip
must be set to positive, and its
plug must correctly fit the
Concertmate 410’s DC9V jack.
The recommended adapter meets
these specifications. Using an
adapter that does not meet these
specifications could damage the
Concertmate 410 or the adapter.
Using Vehicle Battery Power
You can power your Concertmate 410
from your vehicle’s cigarette lighter
socket using a 9-volt DC adapter (not
supplied), such as RadioShack Cat.
No. 270-1560A.
Cautions:
• You must use a DC adapter that
supplies 9 volts, and delivers at
least 300 milliamps. Its center tip
must be set to positive, and its
plug must properly fit the
Concertmate 410’s DC9V jack.
The recommended adapter meets
these specifications. Using an
adapter that does not meet these
specifications could damage the
Concertmate 410 or the adapter.
• Always plug the AC adapter into
the Concertmate 410 before you
plug it into the AC outlet. Always
unplug the AC adapter from the
AC outlet before you unplug it
from the Concertmate 410.
illustration
• Always plug the DC adapter into
the Concertmate 410 before you
plug it into the cigarette lighter
socket. Always unplug the DC
adapter from the cigarette lighter
socket before you unplug it from
the Concertmate 410.
1. Plug the 5.5 mm outer-diameter/
2.1 mm inner-diameter barrel plug
into the cable so it reads TIP
+POS.

Listening Safely
2. Set the adapter’s voltage switch to
9 volts.
To protect your hearing, follow these
guidelines when you use headphones.
3. Insert the adapter’s barrel plug
into the DC9V jack on the back of
the Concertmate 410.
• Set the volume to the lowest set-
ting before you begin listening.
After you begin listening, adjust
the volume to a comfortable level.
4. Plug the other end of the adapter
into the vehicle’s cigarette lighter
socket.
• Do not listen at extremely high
volume levels. Extended high-
volume listening can lead to per-
manent hearing loss.
CONNECTING
HEADPHONES
• Once you set the volume, do not
increase it. Over time, your ears
adapt to the volume level, so a
volume level that does not cause
discomfort might still damage your
hearing.
To listen to your Concertmate 410
without disturbing others, you can con-
nect a pair of stereo headphones with
1
a /8-inch plug (not supplied). Your lo-
cal RadioShack store sells a wide se-
lection of headphones.

CONNECTING AN
EXTERNAL AMPLIFIER
To amplify your Concertmate 410’s
sound, you can connect it to an exter-
nal amplifier (not supplied) using an

audio cable (not supplied) with a /8-
inch plug.
To connect an external amplifier to
your keyboard, insert the cable’s plug

perior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for
your Concertmate 410 so you can enjoy it for years.
Keep the Concertmate 410 dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately.
Liquids might contain minerals that can corrode the electronic cir-
cuits.

damage circuit boards and cases and can cause the keyboard to
work improperly.
Use and store the Concertmate 410 only in normal temperature envi-
ronments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic
devices and distort or melt plastic parts.
Keep the Concertmate 410 away from dust and dirt, which can cause
premature wear of parts.
